Dreading the report cards and other stuff
December 7th I have 2 teacher interviews back to back. I don't want to go. I don't need confirmation that I have one child with behaviour difficulties and one with listening deficiencies. It won't be news.
Last week's 'weekly update' advised me that 6 chose an inappropriate phrase to relate to one of her friends. "kiss my ass" was the inappropriate substitute for "hello". The teacher spoke with 6 to encourage a more acceptable greeting (like we've never discussed it at home...) The newly adpoted salutation was borrowed from one of her new friends - Mikey. According to 6, Mikey's much worse than her - he uses this on grade 8's. She just used it on a grade 3 girl! The back story is (and there's always a back story...) I could see this one coming a mile away. This particular girl was a friend last year when they were in a 1-2 split class. Now graduated to grade 3, the other girl has stressed to 6 that she is not allowed to associate with grade 2's. 6 is hurt. She doesn't handle hurt well.
4 filled me in on her school issues.
"I have trouble listening in group time. Sometimes I get distracted."
"Are you distracted by something that is going on in your head, or something in the classroom?"
"In my head."
"What is distracting you?"
"I keep thinking about how much I love my family and how much fun we have together!"
She is so full of baloney. Can't wait until this one hits puberty!

Don't go
Stay home and make popcorn with your kids..
I went to about a gazillion of those things before I finally decided that I knew my kids better than they did.. and we would all benefit from a bonding evvening more than a bunch of blah blah blah...
You are a good mom.. you are an ivolved mom who cars.. that is enough.. you do not need some semi stranger butting in
As for Kiss my ass..
(sorry but rofl)
I have sort of been there myself..but I never had much time for teacher blah blah blah..
One day when my oldest son was in about 4th grade.. he was in music class and for some reason announced to all and sundry that Rich's voice sucks.
I knew Rich., and his mom.. and my son, of course..
The music teacher called my house and told me in a huge huff how upset he was that my son said something like that in his class....
When the teacher explained what Adam said.. instead of registering horror and dismay, as expected.. I asked "does it?"
well.. that was not a happy teacher..
but i was not in the mood for his crap.. like, if that is the worst thing he has to deal with from a student he shouldget down on his knees on the parkway west and thank all the gods.. sheesh!
I explained that if adam ever said anything truly upsetting like F*CK you! He should give me a ring.. until then..
another time, (Adam again ) staged a protest .. 5th grade this time .. when the kids from high school who rode the same bus.. were smoking on the bus. There was a boy with asthma on the bus who was being affected, and the bus driver would not do anything..
So Adam got all the middle school kids to walk into the office one sday and refuse to leave until they got action..
Again, they were disappointed with my reaction of "Thats my boy! I could not be more proud "
Then there was the other son who refused to take the standardized tests in high school( he was a senior)... and when the teacher called me , I stood by his decision.
They were probably pretty happy when my last one graduated.
Look.. I do not think kids should be allowed to run wild... or be mouthy and disrespectful.. but when Kiss my ass fits the bill.. well.. then it fits!
Your kids sound great! perfectly imperfect..
Stay home, pop corn watch a movie.. and consider taking a mental health day for all three of you the next day!
They can be the best times with your kids, you know? When you sort of join in on keeping them out of school on a school day.. its like a gift..
have fun
