animals
Every once in awhile we get reminded that our house full of furry, lovable pets is really a house full of animals subject to the laws of nature.
Friday night we discovered we had lost a pet rat. Not lost as in cannot find it. Lost as in dead. J and I made the discovery when we noticed that there were only 4 sets of paws climbing the cage walls...She counted and approached cautiously - then scrambled back. "I think I saw a tail." she gagged.
I am the animal barf cleaner, medicine doser and dead animal removal crew. Don't as why - the position was never officially declared mine - just happened over the years. So I got to investigate further. Sure enough, Zig Zag, the smallest rat was gone. Not only gone, but consumed. I will not go into any further detail. Suffice it to say it was enormously disgusting!
After the cage was cleaned, we told 6 about the loss of her pet. She sobbed for 2 hours and held all her other rats - reassuring them she would not let anything happen to them. So sad, but at least she wasn't the one to make the discovery!
Every once in awhile we have to be reminded that these are animals.

ahhh rats..
they can certainly be good pets.. cute for those who are rat lovers.. but they are unpredictable, and tend to be lumpy.. most rats I have known have died of cancer...
so what other pets do you have?
i am a ferret lover.. but have never had one.. never will, i guess.... they are too energetic for old me :)
last night i dreamed that i was given a puppy for Dunkers to love with me..
it was pink..
i named her lavender
she was tiny and poofy.. not my taste in dogs at all.... but, chances are i wouldn't choose a pink dog either.. so ?
dreams !
i used to be the one where the neighborhood kids brought the birds and bunnies.. and so on to be healed.. sometimes they were...
we were the proud keepers of a couple of box turtles.. Macduff and Macduff II... love turtles! they have great smiles..
When I worked at the clinic I came to know hedgehogs.. ( wonderful creatures!) and many other exotics... and warmed up to birds. .. don't tell anyone, but i would love to have an African Grey..
I miss that job every day of my life.. it left a hole in my heart that I know I can never heal..
no other clinic will do.. must be holistic.. and that was "home" to me more than i can tell..
the only other holistic clinic in the area is that vets ex-wife.. couldn't do it..
so..
I am glad to hear that you are the healer of creatures in your home.. not surprised... you have shown your warm heart often..
